  Artige Company Privacy Policy

Current as of   2 February 2005

Overview   This document discloses information gathering and dissemination practices for this website: www.artige.com and the Artige Company, and is part of the Agreement between you and the Artige Company, which also includes the Terms and Conditions. By accepting the Artige Company Terms and Conditions and by using the Website or any of its Services (as those terms are defined in the Terms and Conditions), you agree to the uses of your personal information described in this Privacy Policy. This privacy policy may be updated from time to time at the Artige Company's discretion.

Note: The Artige Company deals in industrial controls and operations research, offering no products designed for use by children. The Artige Company does not knowingly collect any information from minors.

The Information We Collect   At this time the Artige Company does not specifically request any data from its Internet users that are not yet customers. All sales are conducted "off-line", at which time certain information can and probably will be, collected from the purchaser, including your street and e-mail address.

The Artige Company does collect Internet traffic data (as all good web sites should), which we analyze to verify that our customer's needs are being met, and to determine what aspects should be improved upon. This traffic data includes the IP address being used by your Internet enabled device, and which web pages you requested. You should also be aware that we monitor all Internet traffic sent to our servers, regardless of protocol or port. Most notably, this includes e-mail (SMTP) and FTP services, but is not restricted to just those services. This monitoring is performed for security reasons, and is necessary to guard against bandwidth piracy.

The Artige Company does not rely upon cookies per se; however, it may be possible that the hosting servers may on occasion have inadvertently turned on cookie generation. These cookies would just generate a unique 128-bit number for tracking purposes. Since we do not have any software in place to monitor these tracking numbers, you can feel free to refuse the cookies if they are offered to you.

How We Use the Information   The Artige Company does most of its marketing on a personal basis. Occasionally we will stage a mass-marketing campaign, and to date they have been through postal means. However, we reserve the right to inform our entire current customer base simultaneously about new products, as well as send our customers technical service alerts, bulletins and holiday party invitations, through means electronic or analog. Of course we use customer data for internal research and product development purposes. At no time is any customer information disclosed to other customers. The Artige Company does not provide customer information to third parties unless forced to by legal authorities. Even aggregate information is not disclosed to others, except to responsible financial institutions for accounting audit purposes. Most importantly, the Artige Company will never sell or rent our customer's information to third parties.

If at any point you feel that you should no longer receive e-mail messages or postal mail from the Artige Company, please send a message to us at optout@artige.com; please include your contact information that we used to transit the message to you, and we will remove your name from our contact database.

Abuse   An unfortunate fact of Internet life is that we need to provide a section on abuse. The Artige Company does not participate in any unsolicited bulk e-mail campaigns, so it would be highly improbable that anyone could receive an e-mail message from the Artige Company unless that person is already a customer, have offered interest in our products, or are party to normal business discourse. If you feel you have received an unsolicited e-mail message in error, please send a message to abuse@artige.com, and we will investigate.

On the other hand, we need to keep our vigilance against others trying to abuse our systems. The Artige Company has made investments in firewall equipment and anti-virus software, in order to minimize the exposure of our customer's information to unauthorized access and use. We also carefully monitor our network and servers, utilizing the tracking data we are collecting to determine if a computer is misusing our resources, according the to the Artige Company Terms and Conditions (commonly known as hacking). The misuse section of the Artige Company Terms and Conditions applies to any entity that attempts to relay SMTP packets through our servers, and we will take all legal action available to us when our servers attacked, regardless of channel or method used. The traffic data will be used to locate and prosecute those that misuse Artige Company property. In addition, the Artige Company actively filters potential threats based upon domain name and IP address. Once an IP address has been found to engage in illegal behavior, they are placed on our "black list", and none of their packets will be allowed through to any of our servers. This list is permanent, and once entered on this list, IP addresses and domain names will never be removed. Therefore it is possible that certain computers may not be able to transmit e-mail messages to an artige.com e-mail address. If you are experiencing this problem, please send a message to the abuse@artige.com mailbox, and we will investigate.

Legal Obligation to Share Data   You as the User, as well as all of the Artige Company's customers, should be aware that Artige may be required under law to comply with a court order or other legal process and share its data with government officials. This, especially after the passage of the Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism Act of 2001 (USA PATRIOT Act). You should also be aware that Artige may not be permitted to inform you, or any of its customers, that it has shared any of its data as part of a legal action.
